Professionals by Design (PbD) was created by a military spouse. The initial premise was to use her education and training [in the field of Human Resource Management and Human Services] to provide resume writing services and interview tips to other spouses. These particular spouses were experiencing anxiety and frustrations with finding a new job—as a result of the relocation experiences that accompany military life. Consequently, as word spread of her success rate in finding these spouses jobs, active duty members began asking for resume advice. This resulted in a support network for military members (of all ranks) who were exiting the armed forces with a limited understanding on how to appraise their military knowledge, skills and abilities against the fair market value of civilian compensation. PbD met with these professionals [one-on-one] to assess their skill set and offer insight and guidance on how to negotiate compensation with their civilian counterparts. The next step for PbD, was obvious—offering middle and senior managers estimates of their total compensation worth. As our clients began to secure substantial job offers, they requested other services; such as, guidance on how to use their professional strengths towards building strong teams. In addition, other leaders within these organizations began asking for customized services. These two platforms expanded our client base to include individuals, corporate leaders, attorneys, educational institutions, insurance companies, and the retail industry.
